The Trump administration on Monday announced formal proceedings to sell oil and gas leases in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil companies.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska State Office issued a call for nominations and comments on several lease tracks considered for the upcoming Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Lease Sale, approximately 1.5 million acres of the refuge along the coast of the Arctic Ocean. The notice also launches the beginning of a 30-day public comment period and allows the agency to move forward with a lease sale, which federal law requires to be announced 30 days in advance.
