Although topics such as U.S. tax reform and the taxing of digital transactions are rarely out of the news lately, there is another kind of tax that governments are using increasingly, and companies would do well to pay more attention to it. These are the indirect taxes that are levied on most transactions as value-added tax (VAT) and general sales tax (GST) or as customs and excise duties.
