A Minnesota federal judge denied injunctive relief on Tuesday regarding the treatment of journalists reporting on the events following George Floyd’s death by law enforcement in the state.
Plaintiff Jared Goyette, a freelance journalist, brought the claim challenging the treatment imposed on press covering the protests, stating that law enforcement used “aggressive tactics to harm and intimidate … members of the news.” Widespread coverage showed police use tear gas and rubber bullets as means to control the unrest, but reports emerged of journalists being “targeted” for their coverage at the scene.
